The Costa Mesa Senior Center is having its annual volunteer
recognition party from 2 to 4 p.m. today.
A dozen volunteers “who have done the most during the year” and who
have not previously been awarded have been picked for recognition,
Executive Director Aviva Goelman said Thursday.
The senior center has more than 200 volunteers and the names of the
winners are being kept top secret until the event, she added.
In addition to the top 12, the center will for the first time
recognize 80 community members who have been top supporters or sponsors.
The center decided to extend the awards to community members outside
of the senior center because it is a special year, Goelman said.
“Volunteers are a big deal all of the time, but this year it is the
International Year of Volunteers and they are extra special,” she said.
