Girls swimming: Mesa falls to Mater Dei

SANTA ANA - The Costa Mesa High girls swim team fell to host Mater
Dei, 95-66, in nonleague action Tuesday.
Erin Bayes was the Mustangs’ lone individual, placing first in the
50-yard freestyle. Her time was not available by the Mustangs’ coaching
staff.
The 200 medley relay team, consisting of Bayes, Wendy Martinovich,
Jody Martinovich and Sarah Douglass posted a winning time of 2:03.82.
The Martinovich sisters joined Bayes and Shirley Peng to win the 400
free relay (3:59.05).
On the boys side, the Mustangs lost, to the Monarchs. 101-36, but not
without a couple of first-place times from Mike Whittman.
The Mustangs’ standout won both the 200 free (2:02.61) and the 100
butterfly (58.72).
Chasen Marshall placed second in the 100 free (58.88) and third in the
50 free (no time available).
