Prep softball: Depleted Tars bested

NEWPORT BEACH - The Newport Harbor High softball team, without
All-Newport-Mesa District standouts Lisa Huntington (ankle) and Amanda
Campbell (hand), dropped a 6-0 Sea View League decision to visiting
Laguna Hills Thursday.
The Hawks, ranked No. 6 in Orange County, scored four in the first,
which was more than enough to back pitcher Brittany Fait’s one-hit,
10-strikeout performance.
Sophomore catcher Bailey Bearden lined a single to center in the first
for the Tars’ lone hit.
Huntington is likely out for the season, according to Tars Coach Jess
Martinson, who said Campbell’s status is uncertain.
Newport (9-9, 0-2 in league) is also without Sara Gorman (pulled
shoulder muscle).
Newport hosts Back Bay rival Corona del Mar Saturday at 11 a.m. It’s
the third meeting between the two, who have split the previous two.
