The Daily Pilot asked sixth-graders at Newport Coast Elementary School

in Newport Coast: What were your favorite and least favorite outfits at

the Academy Awards on Sunday?

“That dress that Julia Roberts wore was just icky. She couldn’t even

get up the steps. Benjamin Bratt had to help her. I just didn’t like the

stripes.”

MEGAN MCTAGUE, 11

Newport Coast

“I liked Julia Robert’s dress. It was weird but cool. I think I liked

all the dresses there.”

JENNIFER ASHLEY, 11

Newport Coast

“My least favorite was Bjork’s dress. It was this huge, fluffy thing

and I couldn’t even figure out what it was until someone told me that it

was a swan thing. All the dresses were nice except for hers.”

KALEIGH TRIDER, 11

Newport Coast

“My least favorite was Bjork’s dress. My most favorite was Samuel L.

Jackson’s [tuxedo]. He was more up to date than the other guys were

because they were just wearing suits. So he really stood out.”

PORTIA FRISBIE, 12

Newport Coast

“I didn’t really watch the awards, but I saw Bjork’s dress and thought

it was kinda cool because no one else would have worn that. So it was a

nice change, and now everyone is talking about it. And see-through

dresses like Jennifer Lopez’s are a bad influence because young

kindergartners might see it and want to wear it too.”

DEBBIE LEE, 12

Newport Coast

“I liked Julia Roberts’ dress because it was nice and not out of the

ordinary and had pretty colors. And her hair was done really nicely too.

If I went to the Academy Awards, though, I would wear a long blue dress

with maybe some flowers on it. But nothing too wacky.”
