CdM nips Brentwood, 10-8

NEWPORT BEACH - Corona del Mar High’s Sea Kings remain unbeaten by
the narrowest of margins today after the Sea Kings held Brentwood High’s
highly regarded Eagles off, 10-8, in a match which began at Corona del
Mar High and finished at the Palisades Tennis Club.
With a 9-8 lead at darkness closing in, the match was moved to
Palisades, where singles standouit Garrett Snyder, down a break at 3-4,
rallied and won in a tie-breaker, 7-5, extending CdM’s record to 4-0.
Brentwood fell to 3-1.
Corona is No. 3-seeded in the upcoming High School All-American
Tournament at Palisades Friday and Saturday, and Brentwood is the No. 4
seed. What’s more, the two teams appear to be the top-heavy choices to
meet again at the end of the season when the CIF Southern Section
Division V finals are played.
“It was just an unbelievable match” said CdM Coach Tim Mang. Had
Snyder lost to Brentwood’s No. 1, Sean McKean, or the Sea Kings lost any
other matchup, Brentwood would have won on games.
McKean had already posted victories over CdM’s No. 1 and 2 singles.
Also huge in the victory was the play of seniors Sean Wadhwa and Ryan
Stockwell in doubles, who pulled out a 7-6 win in the No. 3 slot.
