OCU Rush off to good start

The Orange Coast United Rush Under-12 Division girls’ soccer squad

defeated the Yucaipa Spartans, 4-1, in the first weekend of play at the

California State Cup Championships in San Bernardino.

Robin Ibbetson scored in the first half for the Rush by taking a

corner kick by teammate Courtney Anderson and heading it into the goal.

The Rush pulled away in the second half with goals by Brianna Baker,

Sasha Key, Anderson and Ibbetson.

Cindy Mendoza, Samantha Castillo, Jaque Anderson and Ali Torres

provided strong offensive support.

Strong defensive play, in a constant rain, was turned in by goalie

Tori Rocke, Elyse VanLeer, Amanda Shaw, Jennifer Powell, Amy Staudinger,

Brittany Koster and Chelsea Wisdom.
