After Tuesday’s 62-53 Division II-A quarterfinal victory over visiting
Monrovia Tuesday, the Ocean View High School boys’ basketball team is one
step away from back to back appearances in the CIF Southern Section
divisional championship game.
In order for the Seahawks to reach the March 3 title game at the
Arrowhead Pond, they’ll have to defeat No. 1 seed Mayfair High of
Lakewood on Friday.
Since Ocean View, which opened the playoffs with a 63-45 win over
Bonita last Friday, has played its first two postseason games at home, it
will play Mayfair on the road. At press time, the game site was not yet
determined, although the Monsoons were looking to host the Seahawks at
either Cerritos College or Gahr High in Cerritos.
The game will tip off at 7:30 p.m., and is a rematch of last year’s
semifinal, which Ocean View won 71-56.
In two playoff games, Marques Crane has led the fourth-seeded Seahawks
(22-6) in scoring with 26 points while Torin Beeler, who returned to the
lineup after missing the last three regular season games due to
mononucleosis, has scored 23 points and led Ocean View in rebounding (15)
in the win over Bonita.
Crane had 11 rebounds in Tuesday’s win over Monrovia, while guard
Steve Steve Clarke hit four three-point shots and finished with 13
points.
The Edison girls’ soccer team has moved into today’s quarterfinal
round of the Division II playoffs, thanks to a pair of 3-0 postseason
victories. The Chargers (21-1-5) will host the winner of Wednesday’s
match between Thousand Oaks and Claremont, at 3 p.m.
Brooke Thulin scored once and set up another goal, and Jane Wyche and
Kira Simon each scored once, during Tuesday’s 3-0 second round road win
at Newport Harbor. The trio also netted single goals in last Friday’s 3-0
triumph over Temescal Canyon. Jenna Huff and Ali Binder shared
goal-tending duties.
“We’re really playing well as a team right now, and we’re excited to
be playing in the quarterfinals,” Edison Coach Kerry Crooks said.
On Wednesday, the Huntington Beach boys’ soccer team traveled to
Irvine to face Woodbridge in a second round Division II game. An Oilers
win puts them into Friday’s quarterfinal round, where they will face the
winner of Wednesday’s match between Pacific and Claremont.
