The Philharmonic Society of Orange County will present the exclusive

West Coast appearances of the Berlin Philharmonic and the Vienna

Philharmonic as part of its 2001-2002 season. The Berlin group will

perform Oct. 15-16 as part of the third annual Eclectic Orange Festival.

The Vienna orchestra will perform March 11-13, 2002. Programs will be

announced at a later date, but all performances will take place in

Segerstrom Hall at the Orange County Performing Arts Center, 600 Town

Center Drive, Costa Mesa. Information: (949) 553-2422.

Dance auditions set for January

Auditions for the 2001 summer course at the School of American Ballet

will be held at 1, 2:30 and 4 p.m. Jan. 20 at the Jimmie DeFore Dance

Center, 151 Kalmus, Suite G3, Costa Mesa. Children age 12 and 13 should go to the first audition. Those age 14 and 15 should attend the second,

and 16- to 18-year-olds should attend the last. The application fee is

$15. Students must register one hour before their audition time.

Intermediate or advanced students who will have reached their 12th

birthday by July 1, 2001, are welcome to audition. Information: (212)

Pinter, Stevenson and Shakespeare in spring at OCC

Orange Coast College has announced the six productions that will

comprise its spring theater season. “Lou Gehrig Did Not Die of Cancer”

and “Where Were You on Your Ninth Birthday” will be staged by OCC’s

Repertory on Fridays through Sundays, Jan. 26-28 and Feb. 2-4. Selected

short plays by modern playwright Harold Pinter will be performed on

Saturdays and Sundays, Feb. 17-18 and 24-25 in the Drama Lab Studio, and

“The Memory of Water,” by playwright Shelagh Stevenson, will run

Thursdays through Sundays, March 8-11 and 15-18. A full-length play

chosen by an advanced OCC directing student will be staged by the

Repertory on Fridays through Sundays, March 30 through April 1 and April

6-8. The college’s “Spring One-Act Play Festival” will be held April

20-22 and 27-29. William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” will run Wednesday

through Sunday, May 16-20. All shows will be performed at OCC, 2701
