Men’s basketball: OCC opens with win in own tourney

COSTA MESA - Five players scored in double figures for the Orange
Coast College men’s basketball team, leading to a 98-67 victory over
Victor Valley in the first round of the Orange Coast Invitational
Thursday.
The Pirates face El Camino, an 82-65 winner over Imperial Valley,
today at 6 p.m.
OCC’s Nick Burwell scored a game-high 18 points, including 3 of 4 from
three-point range. The Pirates’ Jeremy Madrid finished with 16 and Chad
Hagedorn scored 15, while Ryan Webster and Ryan Earl scored 12 each.
OCC led, 55-35, at halftime and cruised to the victory, outrebounding
Victor Valley (2-6) 44-36. The Pirates made 12 of 21 three-pointers as
Webster and Madrid connected on four each.
Also at the tournament, L.A. Valley defeated Cuyamaca, 71-64.
