Women’s basketball: OCC evens record with 54-50 win

COSTA MESA - Kristen Urban, a Newport Harbor High product, scored

18 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Orange Coast College

women’s basketball team to a 54-50 win over visiting Victor Valley

Saturday.

OCC (3-3) stayed close with the Rams (3-2) early, leading just 22-20

at halftime. But, the Pirates took advantage of their depth, used a

pressing defense to wear down Victor Valley and stretched the lead 43-33

midway through the second half.

The Rams created a mismatch inside with Dayna Allen, a 6-5 center, who

measured eight inches taller than OCC’s Nadia Mojica. Allen finished with

18 points, mostly from inside the paint. She also grabbed 21 rebounds.

Mojica responded, using her quickness to tally 12 points and 12 rebounds. OCC’s Karyn Fierst had six assists and six points for the

Pirates.
