* AT ISSUE: We asked readers Jan. 5 how they felt about the newly

remodeled Harbor Center and if it would improve the area or hurt

neighbors. Here’s what a few had to say:

I am calling in regards to Harbor Center, the new shopping center. And I

was just reading some of the negative comments from other readers in

Saturday’s Daily Pilot. The shopping center is absolutely beautiful. The

nautical theme, although, not part of Costa Mesa, is a beautiful theme.

And those stores are very nice. We have thoroughly enjoyed going to

Nick’s Pizza for 30 years, but the new restaurant is just awesome. And it

is so nice to have a T.J. Maxx with higher-quality merchandise than

Marshall’s had there. But it is also not the fake stuff from Fashion

Island. And we are just thrilled with the new center. Good luck to them.

I would like to let all of the people that live behind the new shopping

center know that they can curse the inventor of the “backup beeping

noise” on trucks as loudly and often as they feel the urge. The inventor

of that annoying safety feature died a couple of months ago, and I must

admit, I had a twinge of guilt when I heard the news. I had been cursing

him every morning between 5 and 9 a.m. for several months. I live behind

a grocery store in Newport Beach and wanted to strangle the man myself.

Isn’t there some sort of noise ordinance to help with some of these

extremely loud, early morning disturbances?
