This is James Young’s first time running for political office. The
University of San Diego Law School graduate has been a volunteer for a
number of organizations, including the Surfrider Foundation, Cleaner
Beaches Program and Habitat for Humanity.
Despite his inexperience, Young said he is committed to representing
young families and stopping wasteful spending in government.
Clean water and beaches are the issues that need immediate attention,
he said.
“We must find a solution to the urban runoff problem, prosecute the
polluters -- including other cities and government agencies, which are
contaminating our beaches -- and demand cleaner water and a safer
environment for our families to enjoy,” he said.

JAMES YOUNG ON:
* REDEVELOPMENT
“I am concerned about overdevelopment in Huntington Beach and its
impact on homeowner property values and our quality of life. I believe we
need to preserve our environmental resources, protect our parks and opens
spaces,” he said.
The city should only approve projects that blend into the community’s
small-town atmosphere, he added.
Young said he is against rent control but supports providing
businesses a tax incentives for landlords and property owners who offer
safe and affordable housing.
* BIGGEST CHALLENGE FACING THE CITY
The infrastructure is by far the most important issue of the future,
Young said.
“With our deteriorating sewer systems, sidewalks, roads, equipment and
buildings, the city must take proactive, rather than reactive, measures
for a conservative financial reserve,” he said.
