The Huntington Beach Mighty Mite Gold Chargers came up with their most
exciting victory of the season Saturday by edging the Rancho Santa
Margarita Eagles, 26-25, in a Pop Warner Football game played at Edison
High.
Huntington Beach, which improved to 3-5, trailed, 14-12, at the break but battled back in a second half that featured four lead changes.
Gregory Souders’ 42-yard punt return for a touchdown run provided the
Mighty Mite Gold Chargers with the winning touchdown.
Philip Vullo also scored on a 55-yard run for Huntington Beach.
Rancho Santa Margarita put together one desperate drive late in the
fourth quarter, but the Eagles were stopped at the Charger one-yard line
on the game’s final play.
