1. Clean up the coast. The 16th annual California Coastal Cleanup Day,

sponsored by the California Coastal Commission, will begin at 9 a.m. at

Crystal Cove State Park. Organizers will set up stations at the Reef

Point parking lot and Pelican parking lot No. 4. Parking fees will be

waived for participants arriving between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. The goal is

to clean 3 1/2 miles of coastline from Abalone Point to Treasure Cove.

2. With a little luck, good timing and a phone, you can attend a free

painting lesson Saturday by members of Pacific Coast Artists, a chapter

of the Society of Decorative Painters. Lessons will be offered to the

first 50 people who register from 10 a.m. to noon or 1 to 3 p.m. at

Painter’s Palette, 2980 McClintock Way, Suite F, Costa Mesa. Students

will create a papier-mache heart box with a faux finish and leaves and
