Robinwood plays for title

Needing to beat host La Mirada twice to advance to the next round
of play, the Robinwood Little League Junior Division All-Star team took
the first step Thursday by scoring a 9-4 victory in Sectional Tournament
action at Behringer Park.
The triumph in the double elimination event allowed Robinwood to stay
alive in the chase for the title, and prevented previously unbeaten La
Mirada from wrapping up the championship.
“The kids played a great game,” Robinwood Manager Dave Brock said. “We
really hit the ball, and we did a nice job of pitching, too.
“Coming into this game, I thought we had a good chance of playing them
a second time today. I really believe that this team can do it.”
Robinwood and La Mirada were to play for the title Thursday night,
beginning at 6 p.m.
It was the third meeting between the two teams, as La Mirada rallied
late last Sunday to pull out a 6-5 victory.
There was no such comeback by the tournament host Thursday, as
Robinwood’s hitting prowess dominated La Mirada hitting.
Robinwood belted out three home runs, with Aric Wienberg starting
things with a solo shot in the second inning. From there, Shawn Parro hit
a grand slam in the fourth inning, and Tommy Ursano came back and inning
later with a two-run shot to make it a 9-4 game.
Since the tournament began last Saturday, Robinwood has hit eight home
runs, including three grand slams.
Other members of Robinwood’s Junior Division All-Star team include
Eric Alcala, Steven Becker, Dylan Brock, Nick Cardona, Andy Coburn, Adam
Dedeaux, Brian Ellis, Danny Falkenstein, Eric Oviatt, Ryan Phillips, and
Steve Willson.
