Boys water polo: CdM wins ORCA/Villa Park Tournament

VILLA PARK - Corona del Mar High’s 18 and under boys water polo
team captured the ORCA/Villa Park Tournament championship last weekend
over 31 other teams at Villa Park High.
CdM broke open a very close game with three goals in the fourth
quarter against ORCA/VP to win the championship, 8-4. Michael March
scored twice in that fourth quarter and Bobby Messenger scored once for
CdM. March had three in the game. Messenger and Artie Dorr had two goals
each, and Sherwin Kim made 12 saves.
To get to the championship, CdM survived a wild and woolly battle with
Simi Valley in the semifinals. CdM scored four times in the fourth
quarter to pull out a 12-11 victory. Dorr broke an 11-11 tie with 22 seconds left in the game. He led his team with four goals. March had
three, and Chriss Street and Cavan Cuyler each had two goals.
In the tournament opener, CdM blasted Villa Park “B,” 15-2. March and
Marcello Pantuliano each had five goals in that game. Dorr and Chase
Emery scored twice.
Dorr had seven goals to lead his team past La Habra, 11-8, in CdM’s
second game. Pantuliano contributed three goals for CdM.
Dorr had his second seven-goal game of the tournament in a 16-5 rout
of Jurupa in game No. 3. March had four goals, and Messenger had two. Kim
made 13 saves in front of CdM’s goal.
In CdM’s fourth game, CdM defeated East, 8-6. Dorr and March each had
three goals. Dorr led CdM in the tournament with 25 goals. March had 19
goals and Pantuliano had 13.
