Fountain Valley Youth Baseball’s Pony Blue All-Star team has
qualified for the 2000 Sectional Tournament, which begins Friday in
Whittier.
The Pony Blue All-Stars qualified for the Sectional by beating Tustin,
13-3, behind the solid pitching of Brad Young, Josh Roth, and Sean Green,
with outstanding defense coming from shortstop Bret Burda. Leading
Fountain Valley in hitting were Roth (triple), Caleb Rogers (double and
two singles), and Don Spreeman.
“I attribute our team’s success to solid defense, team speed, and good
hitting,” Fountain Valley Manager Dennis Young said.
Fountain Valley advanced to the Sectional Tournament after placing
second at last weekend’s District Tournament. The Pony Blue All-Stars
bounced back from a tournament opening 11-2 loss to Saddleback, then
bounced back to defeat Newport Harbor Red, 9-8, Newport Harbor Blue, 7-4,
Los Alamitos, 11-1, and then Tustin, before being defeated again by
Saddleback, this time by a 7-2 score, in the final of the double
elimination tournament.
Other members of the Fountain Valley team include Tyler Hoffman, Rick
Gallegos, Josh Rogers, Tyler Simons, and Jared Bryan, and coaches Greg
Hoffman and Collin Simons.
