ISSUE: CLASS-SIZE REDUCTION
Vote: 4-0, with Bonnie Castrey absent
Summary: At its Tuesday meeting, the school board voted to let the
district apply for funds from the federal class-size reduction program.
The district is eligible for $181,280 for the 2000-2001 school year. The
money would supplement state class-size reduction funds, and would be
used to hire and train new teachers for ninth-grade language arts classes
at Ocean View, Marina and Westminster high schools.
ISSUE: DROPOUT RECOVERY PROJECT
Vote: 4-0
Summary: For the 15th year, the board agreed to apply to the
California Department of Education for funding for the Alternative
Education Outreach Consultant Program, also known as the district’s
Dropout Recovery Project. The district is eligible to receive $44,794.
ISSUE: GAS LEAK
Vote: 4-0
Summary: The board adopted a resolution to ratify a purchase order to
Pastusak Plumbing Co. for the repair of a major gas line leak at Edison
High School. The repair, which cost $19,034, was done on an emergency
basis in late April and was not formally bid upon.
ISSUE: DIGITAL HIGH SCHOOL GRANT
Vote: 4-0
Summary: Ocean View High School will submit an application to the
California Department of Education for a Digital High School Technology
Installation Grant in the amount of $444,300. Matching funds are required
and will be provided through existing technology resources and school
facilities program funds.
