Sharks edge Red Wings, 3-2

The Sharks and Red Wings couldn’t decide things in regulation play,

so they went overtime last weekend, where Kyle Merrick’s goal in the

extra session gave the Sharks a 3-2 Campbell Division victory at Coast 2

Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach.

Merrick’s winning score was set up by Kevin Lassen and Daniel Reed,

each of whom were credited with an assist.

The Sharks had taken a 1-0 first-quarter lead on Lassen’s unassisted

goal at the 3:05 mark of the period. The Red Wings, however, forged a 1-1

tie through two quarters when Kyle Impelman scored on Dylan Miller’s

assist.

Both teams scored in the third period, with Reed scoring off a Merrick

feed for the Sharks, and Taylor Song scoring unassisted for the Red

Wings.

Sharks goalie Nicholas Capriccio and Red Wings goalkeeper William De

Witt matched each other with 18 saves during regulation play, and one

save apiece in overtime.
