CdM girls scrapbook: CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
- Share via
CORONA DEL MAR - If Corona del Mar High girls athletics had its own
version of the ESPYs, voters would have plenty to choose from after the
1999-00 athletic year.
Cross country won CIF Southern Section and CIF State championships in
Division IV, track and field won the section Division III crown, and CdM
captured seven of the 10 Pacific Coast League team titles.
What’s more, water polo advanced to the Division II section title game,
while tennis, volleyball and soccer reached the CIF semifinals.
Basketball reached the CIF Division III-AA quarterfinals and led all CdM
girls teams with 22 wins.
Individual honors were even more plentiful, led by senior running
sensation Liz Morse, who won the state 800-meters title and was a section
champion in the 400, 800 and 1,600 relay. She was PCL Athlete of the
Year.
First-team All-CIF recognition was bestowed upon: Dmitra Havriluk and
Jamie Brownell (volleyball): Arin Hendrickson, Danielle Carlson and
Christina Hewko (water polo); as well as Allison Harvey and Elisha Morgan
(soccer).
Other stars included: Jenny Cummins and Diana Hossfeld (running); Jessica
Luchesi, Julia Livingston, Molly O’Meara and Britta Vogele (soccer);
Melinda Tucker and Lauren Guthrie (water polo); Kristin McCoy
(basketball); Anne Yelsey, Nadia Vaughan, Leslie Damion and Kristen
Griffith (tennis); Meghan Gallagher and Marissa Becker (volleyball);
Lauren Powers (swimming); as well as golfers Taylor McCormick and Allison
Schauppner.
