Six graduating seniors from Newport Harbor High School were awarded a
total of $25,000 in scholarships from Conexant Systems Inc.
The Newport Beach-based communications technology company gave out
scholarships to students who plan to study math and science.
Doug Dukes, who will be attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute next
year and majoring in engineering, was awarded a $10,000 scholarship.
John Swigart, one of Newport Harbor’s valedictorian scholars, received
$5,000 toward his tuition at Princeton University, where he will study
engineering physics.
The remaining four recipients, who all plan to study engineering or
engineering physics, received $2,500: Scott Perkins will be attending
USC; Tanya Jones will go to UC Irvine; Dena Chrys will be attending
Cornell University; and Ryan Brill will attend UC San Diego.
