A year ago, Seaview Little League defeated Huntington Valley in the
Minor B Division Tournament of Champions title game.
Twelve months later - but in a different division, it was payback time
for Huntington Valley.
The Mets, the No. 1 team from their league, trailed, 1-0, early, then scored the game’s final six runs to post a 6-1 triumph over Seaview’s No.
2 entry at Robinwood Little League.
The victory advances the Mets into Saturday’s second round, where they’ll
face the winner of Tuesday’s first-round game between Robinwood No. 1 and
Westminster No. 2 at 9 a.m.
After Seaview had taken a 1-0 lead in their first at-bat on a Jake Burke
RBI, Huntington Valley winning pitcher Race Parmenter took it from there,
shutting down the Rockies the rest of the way.
Parmenter allowed just three hits while striking out 12.
“Race did a great job and the kids played a good game,” Huntington Valley
Manager John Parmenter said. “Our bats will need to come around Saturday,
however, if we hope to continue winning in this tournament.”
The Mets managed just four hits, with Chase Barnes getting a two-RBI
single, Kyle Ammons an RBI double, and Marcus Breit and Anthony Vidal
each adding singles.
Rockies relief pitcher Matt Fockler didn’t allow an earned run the final
final 3 2/3 innings.
The Mets, who started their season 3-7, played four games in just five
days just to qualify for the Tournament of Champions as Seaview’s No. 2
team.
“I thought our kids did a great job just to get to this tournament,”
Seaview Manager KC Fockler said. “We were 3-7 early, but the kids rallied
together and turned their season around. They played great ball down the
stretch.”
