ISSUE: SCOOTERS
Vote: 5-0
Summary: The Fountain Valley School District Board of Trustees voted
Wednesday to add scooters to the list of modes of transportation not
allowed at district schools. Skateboards, in-line skates and roller
skates are already on the list. The rule is intended to prevent injuries
and to prevent property damage, officials said. Bikes are allowed.
ISSUE: GIFTED PROGRAM FUNDING
Vote: 5-0
Summary: The board approved the district’s application for its annual
state funding for the Gifted and Talented Education Program. Funds are
contingent on the submission and approval of the budget. The district’s
proposed expenditures total to $56,200.
ISSUE: STUDY SESSION
Vote: None
Summary: The board held a study session to discuss the budget for the
next school year. The proposed state budget will include $1.8 million in
discretionary funds.
Some of the programs the district is considering whether to fund are
class-size reduction in fourth and fifth grades, additional staff and an
intervention program.
“We want to make sure to spend the money wisely and make the greatest
impact on learning,” said Steve McMahon, assistant superintendent of
business.
Another session will be held July 6.
