Junior Kahunas
It’s that time of year again -- time to celebrate the honors and
accomplishments of our talented and gifted youth. Every year we note the
influential people among us -- the Big Kahunas -- and now we look to the
younger generation. With the help of schools, places of worship and
community programs, we’ve selected 95 of the area’s top youth:
volunteers, scholars, performers, athletes and just all-around good kids.
Many of them excel in the classroom, but not all. Some are good at
sports, others have artistic abilities. Most give their time to the
community, doing everything from helping with Special Olympics to candy
striping at a local hospital. But what really sets them apart is their
attitude, their willingness to go the extra mile and their desire to help
others.
Congratulations to 2000’s Junior Kahunas.

also know there are a lot of other outstanding young people in Huntington
Beach, Fountain Valley and Sunset Beach who aren’t mentioned here. We’re
sure you know of plenty of kids who deserve praise and recognition.
Let us know who they are, and we’ll run a follow-up list. All you have to
do is detail the youth’s accomplishments and include his or her name,
age, grade, school and a photo. And please be sure to also include your
contact information.
Mail your Junior Kahunas to the Independent, 18682 Beach Blvd., Suite
