Newport Harbor High School teacher Susan Bond has been selected to attend
one of 27 summer study opportunities supported by the National Endowment
for the Humanities.
Bond, a Newport Beach resident, was chosen from among a national pool of
applicants.
The National Endowment for the Humanities is a federal agency that offers
annual summer seminars and institutes at colleges and universities so
teachers can study with experts in humanities fields.
Bond will participate in a seminar titled “World Religions in America,” a
six-week program at Harvard University.
“I’m thrilled to be selected for such a prestigious research project,”
Bond said. “I look forward to sharing my experience with my colleagues
and students in the fall.”
Selected teachers will receive a stipend to cover travel, study and
living expenses.
Other seminar topics include Shakespeare, American history and women’s
studies.
Bond earned a bachelor’s degree in history from San Diego State
University in 1990 and a master’s degree in history from Cal State Long
Beach in 1995. She teaches U.S. history and American democracy classes.
