We asked people at Home Depot in Costa Mesa what they like best about
the annual Costa Mesa-Newport Harbor Lion’s Club Fish Fry and Carnival.
Here’s what they had to say.
1. “I remember the cotton candy. And my mom used to buy a lot of fish.
There was a lot of food. But when I used to go, I was just a little kid.
Now that I’m older I don’t go. Money.”
BRYAN SLAVENS

2. “I remember the dime toss. I don’t make a point of going anymore. I
will definitely take my 2-year-old son Joshua when he gets older.”
FRANK DOWD
Costa Mesa
3. “We always took the kids there. And I hate to tell you this, but
they loved the fish. But I don’t eat fish. It’s up to my daughter. If she
wants to go I’ll be there. It’s a part of your childhood.”
JACKIE KERR

4. “The fish is the best part. The way they fry it. And the beer. And
just all of the people that gather together make it great.”
BILL TOMLIN
Newport Beach
5. “We don’t go to it. But we donate to it. I went to carnivals when I
was a kid, but at some point you just get carnivaled out.”
