LONG BEACH - The Newport Aquatic Center Junior Rowing Team had a
banner day at the Long Beach Invitational Regatta on Saturday, April 15.
In the Men’s Varsity Eight race, NAC powered into the lead and never
looked back, taking the gold. Then two rowers hot-seated immediately into
the Men’s Varsity Quad boat for another race. That boat took the early
lead but couldn’t hold on, finishing second in that race by less than two
seconds. The Men’s Varsity Pair also took the gold in their race.
The Men’s Junior Varsity team took first in the Light Eight race and
second in the Light Four, with the Men’s Novice Four finishing second and
the Men’s Novice Eight placing third.
Kate Mead had a second place finish in the Women’s Varsity Single event,
with the Women’s Varsity Quad team taking third. Meanwhile, the Women’s
Novice Eight finished a strong second in their race while the Women’s
Novice Four took the bronze in their event.
Next up is the final event of the season, the Southwest Regional
Championship Regatta in Sacramento, on May 19-21.
