A pretrial hearing on a drunk driving charge against former pro
basketball star and Newport Beach resident Dennis Rodman has been
continued until May 25, pending “discussions” with the Orange County
District Attorney’s Office, attorney Paul Meyer said.
The D.A.’s office had no comment on any possible negotiations with Meyer
and his flamboyant client.
Rodman’s blood-alcohol level was 0.15 -- almost twice the legal limit --
when Costa Mesa police stopped him Dec. 22 near South Coast Plaza.
Rodman, driving a Bentley, was pulled over near Bristol Street and
Paularino Avenue, where officers said he failed a field sobriety test. He
was taken to jail, but freed after posting $2,500 bail hours later.
Rodman has no prior drunk driving convictions.
In late August, authorities arrested Rodman at Woody’s Wharf in Newport
Beach, where he reportedly fought with another patron. Public drunkenness
charges filed by the D.A.’s office were dropped three months later
because of insufficient evidence.
Nearly three months later, Rodman was arrested for allegedly striking his
estranged wife, Carmen Electra, in Miami Beach. Those charges were
eventually dropped as well.
