Bonny takes position at Troy

Former Marina High girls basketball coach Pete Bonny has been hired
as an assistant basketball coach at Troy High, the Fullerton school
announced recently.
Bonny coached at Marina for 10 years, his tenure ending after the 1998-99
season.
In his 10 years, the Vikings won six Sunset League championships and
claimed the CIF Southern Section Division I-A championship with a victory
over San Clemente in the March ’98 final.
Bonny currently is a teacher at Orange View Junior High in Anaheim, and
will continue to run one of the top junior high physical education
departments.
He also will have plenty of time, he said, to continue coaching both the
girls basketball and volleyball at the school.
“This is an exciting opportunity, getting the chance to be part of a
great program such as Troy’s,” Bonny said. “I’ll have the opportunity to
assist a great coach in Kevin Kiernan.”
Kiernan guided Troy to an appearance in the 2000 Division I-A title game
last March, where the Warriors were defeated by J.W. North. Kiernan
welcomes back four starters from that runner-up squad.
