Mariners overpower Diamondbacks, 5-2

The Mariners combined a potent offense with a strong pitching game
Saturday to score a 5-2 victory over the Diamondbacks in Huntington
Valley Little League Majors Division play at Inspiration Field.
Cory Sorenson went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Chad Heberden doubled home two
runs to highlight the Mariner offense, and winning pitcher Matt McGwire
threw a complete game, allowing just five hits. McGwire also added an RBI
single on offense.
For the Diamondbacks, Andy Scott-Webster had two hits, Patrick Hart, Josh
Valenzuela, and Steven Thompson each had a single, and both Jenna
Balester and Randy Casillan produced an RBI.
In other games:
Rangers 10, White Sox 7
Cody Steiner and Max Hirsch both doubled among two hits, Ryan Van Herk
had two hits, and both Adam Sciarrillo and David Mendoza doubled for the
Rangers; Shawn Eley went 3 for 4 and Mike Mendez went 2 for 2 to lead the
White Sox.
Angels 12, A’s 4
Joe Byers powered the Angels offense by going 4 for 4 with a triple, two
doubles and five RBI, Michael Hensley had two hits, Frankie Mead had an
RBI double, Sean Lavenau singled home two runs, and Kirk Hodgman had an
RBI single to complete the attack. For the A’s, Jordan Marquette and Andy
Leesor each had two hits, the trio of Brandon Kinney, Brian Wiktorski,
and Curtis Crandell combined on a triple play, and Shayne Robinson turned
a double play.
Rangers 6, Diamondbacks 5
Max Hirsch belted a three-run home run and Max Bottorff went 3 for 3 for
the Rangers; Jenna Balester and Blaine McBeth had RBI doubles and Nick
Martinazzi had an RBI single to lead the Diamondbacks.
A’s 5, Mariners 2
Winning pitcher Shayne Robinson allowed just five hits and was a leader
on offense for the A’s with two doubles and two RBI, and Jordan Marquette
doubled and tripled with an RBI; Scott Lindman’s two-run triple scored
both Mariner runs.
Angels 6, White Sox 5
Frankie Mead, Mitchel Queen, Ricky Pineda, and Damion Loukas each had two
hits for the Angels; both Mike Mendez (double) and Trevor Rock each had
two hits for the White Sox.
