DAVE GAROFALO -- Mayor’s Column

How easy is it to get involved in the fight against hunger? Join me as I

take part in Realtors Against Hunger, a Huntington Beach food drive to be

held Monday, May 29, at the Waterfront Hilton Beach Resort.

The host of the event will be Peter Marshall, best known as the original

host of “The Hollywood Squares.” The Larry White Orchestra will perform.

In addition, special invited guests slated to appear include celebrities

Donald O’Connor, Susan Anton, Billy Barty and Ray Fell. The theme of the

event is Hollywood-Las Vegas Extravaganza, and there are a number of

sponsorship levels to get individuals and businesses in on the charitable

effort.

By attending this fun-filled event, you’ll be joining Huntington Beach

Realtors in the fight against hunger right here in Orange County. Indeed,

Second Harvest Food Bank said 400,000 people are at risk of going hungry

each month in Orange County.

The goal of the Realtors Against Hunger food drive is to provide 1

million pounds of food for Second Harvest Food Bank during the month of

May. If you can’t attend the event at the Waterfront Hilton Beach Resort

on May 29, then make a tax-deductible donation to the Second Harvest Food

Bank, 426-A W. Almond St., Orange 92866.

I want to recognize the Realtors who are stepping forward to help here in

our community. California Brokers Network, Century 21, ERA Realty &

Lloyd, First Team Real Estate, Fred Sands Paradise, Harbour Homes, Pier

Realty, RE/MAX Real Estate Services, Star Real Estate and Tarbell Real

Estate are pulling together to collect enough funds and nonperishable

food items to provide 1 million pounds of food.

For more information, call Dawn Nisley with Harbour Homes at 840-1031 or

visit the Second Harvest Food Bank Web site at

https://www.2ndharvestoc.org.

Together we can make a difference.

* DAVE GAROFALO is mayor of Huntington Beach.
