admissions at Back Bay Montessori, Jamee Backus, has been named to the
2000-01 edition of the Lexington Who’s Who Registry of Executives and
Professionals. The book recognizes individuals who have demonstrated
leadership and achievement in their profession. ... Eun S. Shin, son of
Newport Beach resident Dong W. Shin, has graduated with honors from the
U.S. Army’s chaplain assistant advanced individual training course at
Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. The course teaches students to prepare
altars for Protestant, Catholic, Jewish and Orthodox services and
stresses the importance of being knowledgeable about all faith groups.
... Leonardo Garcia Bautista, son of Costa Mesa residents Santiago and
Carolina Garcia, has been promoted in the U.S. Army to the rank of
sergeant. Garcia Bautista is an eye, ear, nose and throat medical
specialist stationed in Waynesville, Mo. ... Costa Mesa’s Pack 301-Eagle
Patrol, a troop of Webelos Scouts, took top honors for spirit at the
Firestones’ Webelos Woods event earlier this month. The troop also
received second place for its flag design and campsite. ... Costa Mesa
Mayor Gary Monahan awarded TeWinkle Middle School seventh-grader and
Someone Cares Soup Kitchen volunteer Nicholas Smith the Costa Mesa
Mayor’s Award for the month of March. Smith volunteered more than sixty
hours at Someone Cares during his summer vacation. ... U.S. Air Force
Airman James H. Green, son of Costa Mesa resident Dottie J. Green, has
graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San
