MARVIN JOSEPHSONChairman of Crest View United, a group formed in

opposition to building a Wal-Mart on land that was once housed a school,

which he lives near. Rarely misses an opportunity to speak out at City

Council meetings.

CONNIE BOARDMAN

Treasurer of the campaign committee formed to promote Measure I. Says the

amount of money the retailer has contributed to defeat the measure is

“obscene.” Lives near the proposed site.

RALPH BAUER

City councilman. A forceful defender of the retailer because he says the

entire city will benefit from the money the store will generate.

JAMES TARWATER

Ocean View School District superintendent. Supports the Wal-Mart lease

because he says it is the best deal for the district’s kids. Doesn’t want

to sell the property because he expects it to increase in value in the

future.

TRACY PELLMAN

Ocean View School District trustee. Head of Save Our Schools, Save Our

City pro-Wal-Mart campaign. Adamant about facilities issues, she has been

the most visible and enthusiastic member of the board to support the

lease.SALLIE DASHIEL

Huntington Beach Union High School District trustee. The most prominent

education official in the area to come out against the lease to

Wal--Mart. Said the district is ultimately accountable to the community,

and the community has demonstrated that it does not want the store, so

the district should listen.

CYNTHIA LIN

Wal-Mart’s key go-to person who has remained unruffled despite much flack

from project opponents. Her company line: “Wal-Mart is the biggest

company for all the right reasons.” Used to be a reporter in Arkansas and

covered Wal-Mart disputes there.
