Security Systems, which is headquartered in Fountain Valley ... Navy

Seaman recruit Keith M. Murphy received the United States Organization

Award after completing his basic training in Great Lakes, Ill. The award

is presented to recruits who best exemplify the spirit and intent of

being a true shipmate. A 1998 graduate of Edison High School, Murphy is

the son of Therese A. Murphy of Huntington Beach. Through the basic

training, Murphy learned seamanship, close-order drill, naval history and

first aid ... Navy Seaman recruit Patrick D. Metzger completed his basic

training at Great Lakes Naval Station in Great Lakes, Ill. He also

received the United States Organization Award, an honor given to recruits

who show a true understanding of being a seaman. Son of Patrick J.

Metzger of Huntington Beach, Metzger graduated from Edison High School

last year ... Army Reserve Pvt. Minh Vu graduated from the water

treatment specialist course at Fort Lee in Petersburg, Va. Vu was

instructed to assist in water reconnaissance, site preparation and the

setup of a water treatment activity. He and his colleagues learned to

operate and maintain water treatment equipment; receive, issue and store

portable water; and perform water quality analysis testing and

verification. Vu is the son of Chat T. Vu and Tan T. Hoang of Fountain

Valley. He is a 1998 graduate of Marina High School ... Army Spec. Allen

G. Duran is one of about 2,900 soldiers assigned to the 10th Mountain

Division (Light Infantry) at Fort Drum in Watertown, N.Y. He was recently

deployed to Bosnia. Duran’s wife, Tonya, is the daughter of Gary R. and

Mary E. Briggs of Huntington Beach ... The Uniloc Co. of Huntington Beach

hired a new director of corporate communications, Les Goldberg of Santa

Ana ... After six weeks of training in Texas, Air Force Airman Erwan De

Quillien of Huntington Beach has graduated from his basic training. The

1999 Edison High School graduate is the son of Jacques and Olga De

Quillien of Huntington Beach ... Rebecca Yael Schorr of Fountain Valley

was named assistant rabbi at Temple Israel of Long Beach. The 1989

Fountain Valley High School graduate is the daughter of Rabbi Stephen and

Robin Einstein of Fountain Valley. Schorr is also a vocal music graduate

from Ithaca College and a Hebrew letters graduate from the Hebrew Union

College-Jewish Institute of Religion ... Zachary Shane Einstein has been

named Outstanding Actor-Year Four at the Orange County High School of the

Arts. The 1999 Los Alamitos High School graduate is attending Muhlenberg

College in Allentown, Pa., as a theater and voice student. Einstein is

Force Airman Jennifer Yost of Huntington Beach has graduated from basic

training in San Antonio, Texas. Yost is the daughter of Nancy J. Yost of

Huntington Beach. She is a 1999 graduate of Marina High School ... Navy

Midshipman Shannon K. Britt of Huntington Beach completed six weeks of

training at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. This training was an

orientation for a four-year training program for naval or Marine Corps

officers. Britt, a 1999 Marina High School graduate is the daughter of

Huntington Beach residents Robert T. and Lyn M. Britt ... Jon Jay Berg of

Huntington Beach received his degree in business administration from the

University of Wisconsin at Platteville ... Fountain Valley class of 1995

graduate Gregory S. Osborne completed his training exercise with an

international naval program. Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Osborne was

stationed on the assault ship USS Bataan, a ship of the USS John F.

Kennedy Battle Group. Osborne and his shipmates participated in Exercise

Bright Star ‘99, which is the 11th exercise in a series that began in

1980. Exercise Bright Star is an important part of the Middle East peace

process. After completing the assignment, Osborne and his shipmates had

the opportunity to visit Marmaris, Turkey ... Army Spec. Allen G. Duran

Huntington Beach has been appointed dean of academic affairs at Western

State University College of Law, where she has taught since 1989 ... Navy

Petty Officer 3rd Class Deborah D. Maitrejean will sail from San Diego on

the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis this month. The 26-year-old

daughter of Frank and Jan Holtzman of Huntington Beach has been deployed

as part of usual peacetime naval operations. Maitrejean, an electrician,

services and repairs the ship’s electrical systems ... Marine Pfc.

Lisandro Duenas of Fountain Valley has completed basic training at Marine

Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. Duenas graduated from Los Amigos High

School in 1999 ... Rabbi Stephen J. Einstein of Congregation B’nai Tzedek

in Fountain Valley has been installed as the second vice president of the

Pacific Assn. of Reform Rabbis at its annual convention in Palm Springs

... Army National Guard Pfc. Jose A. Ochoa of Fountain Valley graduated

from basic military training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. ... Andrew

Larry Grant of Huntington Beach was elected vice president of

transmission at Southern California Edison. In his new position, Grant

will manage the company’s transmission infrastructure, which includes

12,000 miles of high-voltage lines and more than 900 electrical

substations located across the utility’s 50,000-mile service area ... The
