CHIMAYO’S GIVEN OK FOR LIVE MUSIC AT PIERSIDE RESTAURANT
Expect strolling minstrels with your meal next time you visit
Chimayo’s at the Beach.
The Planning Commission voted 5-0 (commissioners Connie Mandic and Bob
Biddle) Tuesday to allow the eatery at 315 Pacific Coast Highway to
entertain patrons with a small band playing salsa and Latin music.
Despite the vote, some commissioners expressed concern that the
potential noise, especially when the music is performed in the
restaurant’s outdoor patio facing the beach, may bother those laying out
on the sand or lounging at Pier Plaza.
The city’s senior planner, Herb Fauland, said there’s adequate space
between the patio and plaza to deaden any noise. As far as beachgoers are
concerned, the music will, if anything, enhance their enjoyment, he said.
The performance may be so good that people may set up beach chairs by
the patio thereby blocking the adjacent sidewalk, Chairman Gerald Chapman
said. If that happens, police can cite people for loitering, Fauland
said.
To make sure all goes well, the commission asked to review the
situation in six months.
The free performances are proposed from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday
through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 11
p.m. Sunday. No dancing is proposed.
