GOLDEN WEST GALA

An evening of formal attire will help support an afternoon of caps and

gowns at the third annual Golden West College Gala.

The black-tie-optional event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Feb. 26 at the

Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach.Reservations are

requested by Feb. 11 and can be made now through the the college’s

foundation.Tables, which seat either eight or 10, are $750; the per-plate

cost is $75. Portions of either donation are tax deductible.The Gala will

include dinner, live and silent auctions, a live band, and dancing.

Donations of auction items are also being accepted by the college’s

foundation, which runs the event.Proceeds will provide scholarship money

for deserving Golden West College students and funding for much-needed

projects and programs that keep the institution operating and

NEW OUTREACH TACTIC

Golden West College is greeting the new year with a new marketing

campaign that includes what is believed to be the first interactive

CD-ROM produced by an Orange County community college.

The campaign is intended to promote the vast opportunities available to

students who take advantage of the college’s many programs, said Margie

Bunten, a college spokeswoman.In addition to illustrating the value of a

Golden West education, the “Oceans of Opportunity” campaign also

highlights the college’s Huntington Beach location.With the interactive

CD-ROM, potential students can use a computer to view a four-minute

video, connect to the campus Web site, or to view photographs and read

more about the college’s academic programs, athletic tradition and fine

and performing arts environment. The CD also comes with printable forms,

such as admission and financial aid applications.The CD and other

informational materials are available to prospective students from the

college’s outreach office, which can be reached at 895-8144. The office

also provides personalized tours of the Huntington Beach campus.

CLINIC INTERNS

The Ocean View School District board of trustees approved an agreement

with the Huntington Beach Community Clinic for intern counselor services

for the 1999-2000 school year.

The district has employed intern counselors in its school since 1990.

Working under the supervision of school psychologists, intern counselors

provide services with entire classes of students, small focus groups and

individual students and their parents.

The total cost for six interns for the school year will be $18,000.TIME

TO SIGN UP

Enrollment and registration are now open to new students planning to

attend Golden West College in Huntington Beach. The Spring 2000 semester

begins Jan. 31 for all but a couple of programs.

Anyone interested in becoming a Golden West College student should visit

the college’s admissions office between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through

Thursday, or between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Friday.

Instruction in the college’s cosmetology program began Jan. 19 and

instruction in the college’s police academy is ongoing.
