Residents concerned about the possible sale of Balearic Parkare meeting
tonight to discuss what it could mean to them.
Balearic Park is a 9.25-acre park in Costa Mesa that the Newport-Mesa
Unified School District, which owns the land, has said it will not need
for a school site.
For more than 22 years, the park has been a neighborhood park and home to
Costa Mesa’s city recreational services.
Since the school board received a recommendation last week to sell the
property to help pay for school repairs, residents have begun petitions
in an effort to discourage the sale.
An informational meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. today in the community
building at Balearic Park, at the corner of Boa Vista and Balearic Drive.
David Brooks, vice president of the school board, will speak briefly and
answer residents’ questions.
