CdM wins freshman team competition

NEWPORT BEACH - Corona del Mar High’s freshman club equestrian team
took first place in the fifth show of the IEL season at the Orange County
Fair Grounds on Jan. 6. Over 30 schools and 120 riders participated in
the competition.
Julia Koetting took first place in the freshman equestrian over fences,
working hunter and the IEL medal event. She also was second in English
pleasure, and her 61 points led CdM.
CdM’s Anne Schroeder was third freshman hunt seat equestrian and scored
39 points. And Whitney Roy took first in the English pleasure event and
had 16 points for CdM.
On the varsity level for CdM, Whitney Weidner finished third in hunt seat
equestrian, English pleasure, equestrian over fences and the IEL medal
event. She was fourth in the working hunters event.
For Newport Harbor, junior Nicole Schultz placed eighth in western limit
showmanship and western limit trail, 11th in western limit horsemanship
and 12th in the western limit pleasure.
