Lightning strikes late, rallies to stay unbeaten

Facing the possibility of having their nine-game unbeaten streak
come to an end, the HB Lightning struck for four goals in the game’s
final 10 minutes Saturday to post a come-from-behind 4-1 victory over
Region 13 (Pasadena) in a girls AYSO Division 3 (Under-14) match.
The Lightning trailed 1-0 throughout most of the match, with the play of
goalkeeper Jessica Goud keeping her team within striking distance. In a
late flurry, Caitlin McGinnis and Tori Heglar each scored two goals, as
the Lightning remained unbeaten at 10-0-1 in league play.

Riptide 1, Sour Grapes 0 In a well-played defensive struggle between two evenly matched teams,
Natalie Boehm scored the game’s lone goal to lift the Riptide into the
division’s championship match Saturday.

The Baywatch Babes scored with three minutes left in regulation play to
win the semifinal match.

In playoff action at Giesler Elementary School in Huntington Beach, Nick
Stephens knocked in the game-winning goal in the final 30 seconds of
regulation play to give the Hornets the hard-fought victory. Tsunami
goalie Brett Webber recorded nine saves.
Cyclones 2, Tsunami 0
David Taylor scored off a William Andrew assist in the second quarter,
and both Andrew and Taylor teamed to assist a fourth quarter goal by
Jacob Sobelman to lead the Cyclones.
Warhawks 2, Tsunami 1
Jake Wells scored a pair of first quarter goals for the Warhawks; Kyle
McDonnell accounted for the Tsunami offense with a fourth quarter score.
