NEWPORT BEACH - Newport Beach Country Club President Jerry Anderson
has received the Southern California PGA’s highest honor as the 1999 Golf
Professional of the Year, the second time in his distinguished career
that Anderson has earned the award.
Anderson also won the award in 1985, just prior to the club’s
reclamation project. Newport Beach plays host to the Toshiba Senior
Classic on the Senior PGA Tour, the only PGA event in Orange County.
“The (golf) industry has changed a lot in the last 14 years and I
think I have changed along with it,” Anderson said. “I’m not the
traditional golf professional in that I don’t have the day-to-day
interaction with the membership. I chose a different path in the golf
industry and elected to take on more responsibility. Thankfully, I have
had success as I’ve attempted to create more value for our membership.”
In January, Anderson was voted into the Daily Pilot Sports Hall of
Fame, celebrating the millennium. He’s also a member of the SCPGA Hall of
Fame.
