NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Lindsay Davenport of Newport Beach is getting
ready to defend her U.S. Open title by advancing to the quarterfinals in
the Pilot Pen Invitational after Tuesday night’s 6-4, 6-2 win over
Nathalie Dechy.
Davenport, 23, had eight aces and broke Dechy’s serve four times.
The No. 2 ranked player in the world, Davenport has won four titles
this year, including a straight-set victory over Steffi Graf at
Wimbeldon.
Davenport, the No. 2 seed, advances to the quarterfinals and will face
either Julie Halard-Decugis or Amelie Mauresmo.
“Just going through what I’ve been through, you stay a little bit more
cool under pressure,” Davenport said. “I’ve got a little way to go. I
don’t feel like I’ve peaked yet this summer.”
