Gasparian new Golden West AD

Albert Gasparian, women’s volleyball coach at Golden West College,
was named Monday as the school’s new Athletic Director.
Golden West President Ken Yglesias announced that Gasparian, who
previously served as athletic director on an interim basis during the
1993-94 academic year, will succeed Tom Hermstad, who has elected to
return to coaching and teaching at the Huntington Beach campus.
Under Gasparian, Golden West.. women’s volleyball has become the
preeminent program in the state. He has guided the Rustler teams to 10
state championships, including the last six in a row, as well as 15
conference titles.
Gasparian has won more than 90 percent of his matches as head coach,
and brings an overall record of 365-37 in the upcoming fall season, which
will be his 17th with the program.
‘Albert is an excellent young coach and classroom teacher with a proven
track record of leadership at the college,’ Yglesias said. ‘The college
community is excited about Albert continuing the by-the-rules, winning
tradition in 21 sports programs, which has been the hallmark of Ruslter
athletics under (past Ads) Dean (Fred) Owens and Tom Hermstad.’
