A man thought to be a long-distance swimmer died at a hospital Friday after being pulled unconscious from the water off Moss Street Beach in Laguna Beach.
The man’s identity was not released pending notification of his relatives.
The man, who was about 50 years old, had no personal items or identification on him when Laguna Beach lifeguards pulled him from the water about a quarter-mile from shore, police Sgt. Jim Cota said.
A person who reported seeing the man at about 8 a.m. told authorities he appeared “lifeless in the water,” police said.
The man was treated by paramedics and taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, where he died.
The cause of death was not disclosed.
