A fire broke out at a Westside Costa Mesa home on Christmas Eve, causing severe damage and displacing five people, including a child, a fire official said Tuesday.
Firefighters responded to the blaze on the 600 block of West 18th Street at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, according to fire Capt. Chris Coates.
They saw flames coming out of the windows and doors, Coates said.
“Crews worked hard to prevent the fire from extending to additional buildings,” he said.
Costa Mesa firefighters, with assistance from their counterparts in Newport Beach, extinguished the fire within about 15 minutes, Coates said.
Three adults and one child — as well as a fourth adult who lived in an attached unit — were displaced, according to Coates. The American Red Cross was called to provide assistance.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
