A Newport Beach resident has been named chairman of the National Kidney Foundation Inc., according to a news release.
Gregory W. Scott, president of Newport Beach-based Winfield Management LLC, has been tapped for the post.
The cause is close to Scott’s heart. He donated a kidney to his son, Steven, who suffered from polycystic kidney disease, the release said.
“One in three Americans is at risk for developing kidney disease and yet so few are aware of it,” Scott said in the release. “During my term as chairman, I want all Americans to understand these facts and come to the realization that it is important for everyone to protect our kidney health.”
Scott plans to build on the foundation’s educational efforts, advancing its community health programs and nationwide awareness campaign, which targets people at highest risk for developing kidney disease and those who diagnose and treat such patients, the release said.
“Our Primary Care Education Initiative is going to have a major impact on awareness by making sure people at risk are tested, understand the basics about kidney function and are having the conversation with their primary care physician about the risks of developing kidney disease,” Scott said.
