9 arrested on suspicion of DUI

A DUI checkpoint in Costa Mesa netted nine arrests for suspicion of drunk or drugged driving, police said Wednesday.
Nearly 3,000 vehicles passed through the drunk-driving checkpoint, according to police.
Police screened 618 vehicles for impaired drivers and administered 23 field sobriety tests at the checkpoint near Newport Boulevard and Flower Street from 8 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday, according police.
Eight drivers were suspected of being drunk and one was suspected of using drugs.
Police cited or arrested six people for driving without a license and two for driving with a revoked license.
Nine vehicles were impounded or stored.
