Readers React: Kashkari deserves his fellow Republicans’ support

To the editor: Politicians with a bold and refreshing message such as California gubernatorial candidate Neel Kashkari are few and far between. (“At GOP convention, Swearengin says she’s undecided on Kashkari,” Sept. 19)
The refusals of fellow Republican nominees Ashley Swearengin (controller) and Pete Peterson (secretary of state) to stand with Kashkari can mean only one of two things:
One, either they do not agree with Kashkari’s ideas of empowering the poor and minorities, reforming education to be in favor of students rather than unions, and rebuilding the middle class; or, two, they are seeking office merely for their own sake and are willing to align themselves with Democrats for self-aggrandizement.
As a longtime Republican, I’m not concerned about the motivation, as now I will not vote for either Swearengin or Peterson.
