Readers React: Head scarf case could open a Pandora’s box on religion

To the editor: Compelling employers to abide their workers’ wearing of religious head wear would open courts to all kinds of religion-based lawsuits. (“Supreme Court seems set to side with Muslim woman in head scarf case,” Feb. 25)
Imagine the chagrin of a Christian-run business if it hired a highly capable job seeker who later entered the employee lot with his car bearing a personalized license tag, “666.” Discriminating against members of the Church of Satan (which enjoys a tax exemption) is just as unlawful as discriminating against Muslims.
The case involving a Muslim woman who was turned down from a job at Abercrombie & Fitch after wearing a head scarf to her interview affords the U.S. Supreme Court an opportunity to put religion in its place — which is in churches and homes, not work.
