Democrats Allen and Fluke in runoff for 26th Senate District

Reporting from Sacramento — Democrats Ben Allen and Sandra Fluke will face off in the November general election as the top two-vote getters among eight candidates in Tuesday’s primary election for the 26th District state Senate seat in Los Angeles County.
The seat is open because Sen. Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) is running for Congress to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Beverly Hills).
The final, unofficial tally on election night had Allen the top vote-getter with 21.8% of ballots cast. He is a member of the Santa Monica-Malibu school board. Fluke, a West Hollywood attorney, placed second with 19.7% of the vote.
Fluke entered the national spotlight in 2012 when conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh called her a “slut” after she testified before Congress that health insurance should pay for contraception.
Independent candidate Seth Stodder had 17.5% of the vote and former Assemblywoman Betsy Butler, a Democrat, attracted 16.7%. Thousands of provisional ballots remain to be counted.
