Gloria Winters- Vernon
Actress in 1950s TV series ‘Sky King’
Gloria Winters-Vernon, 78, an actress who starred as Penny in the 1950s TV series “Sky King,” died Aug. 14 at her home in Vista, Calif., from complications of pneumonia, her family announced.
As Gloria Winters, she had appeared in “The Life of Riley,” Jackie Gleason’s first TV series, in 1949 and ’50.
On “Sky King,” a half-hour contemporary western show about an Arizona rancher who flew a twin-engine plane over his land instead of chasing outlaws on horseback, she played the niece of Kirby Grant’s Sky King. The series aired on NBC and ABC in the 1950s.
A Los Angeles native, Winters married Dean Vernon, a sound engineer on “Sky King” and eventually gave up acting.
